Mystery Quilt Class - Two Fabric Tease

Here is what you need to bring to class:

-Pre-cutting of fabric required, in order to succeed making basic blocks to finish rows in class.   See the cutting instructions below

-Sewing machine, thread for piecing, sharp scissors, ¼ inch sewing foot or ability to move needle to get good ¼ inch seams.   Bring your rotary cutter if a mistake is made.

Ruler for squaring-need at least 5 inch squaring ability. Rotary cutter, mat.

-The fabric requirement are generous, to allow for uneven cuts, shrinkage (if you’re a pre-washer) and mistakes – and because most quilters would rather have a bit too much then not enough.

You’ll need:

2 2/3 yards of LIGHT print or solid, for background ***

3 ¼ yards of DARK print or solid, for design, border and binding ***

STRONG CONTRAST BETWEEN THE LIGHT AND THE DARK IS CRUCIAL!

***If you use prints, avoid obvious directional prints and prints with a lot of open spaces.

Two Fabric Tease Cutting Instructions

Read through all cutting instructions before you begin. All cutting dimensions include ¼ “ seams.   Get yourself some large envelopes or folders to keep your pieces all separate and ready for class!

From these strips, cut a total of 144 segments, 2 inch by 5 3/8 inch

-Cut 9 selvage to selvage strips, 5 inches wide

     From 8 of these strips, cut a total of 64 squares, 5 x 5

     From the 9th strip, cut 2 more squares, 5 x 5, for a total of 66 sq.

From the remaining strip cut 4 rectangles, 2 inch by 5 inch

-Cut 2 selvage to selvage strips 2 inches wide.

From the DARK fabric:

-Cut 1 selvage to selvage strip, 2 inch wide

-Cut 5 selvage to selvage strips, 5 inches wide.

      From 2 of these strips, cut 16 squares, 5 x 5

      From the 3rd strip, cut 1 more square, 5 x 5.

Then from the remaining strips, cut 74 rectangles, 2 x 5 inches

-Cut 5 strips selvage to selvage, 2 3/8 wide.

      From these strips cut a total of 72 squares, 2 3/8 x 2 3/8 inches

Cut the squares once diagonally to make 144 half square triangles

Set aside remaining fabric, will be used later for borders and binding.
