Sewing Class for Kids -- Summer Break Fun



Summer Break is here, and if you’re looking for a creative, confidence?building activity for your kids or grandkids, this is the perfect opportunity. Sign them up for one, two or all three days of our Beginning Sewing Class designed especially for young makers.

By the end of class, students will feel more comfortable sewing straight lines, understanding seam sizes, and safely using an iron.

Who Can Join

  • Ages: 8 and up
  • Skill Level: Beginner
  • Instructor: Cathy Alfrey
    • I’ve been crafting since I was 10 years old—cross stitching, crocheting, sewing, quilting, and painting. I love helping kids discover the joy of creating something with their own hands.

Class Dates & Projects

  • Wednesday, July 29Sew a Star Pillow (10:00 – 12:30 p.m.)
    • Material:  ½ yard of fabric of your choice
  • Thursday, July 30Sew a Small or Large Wallet (10:00 – 12:30 p.m.)
    • ¼ yard for outside of wallet
    • ¼ yard for inside of wallet
    • ¼ yard of SF101
  • Friday, July 31 Sew a Small Quilt (10:00 - ?)
    • 3 fat quarters
    • 1 yard of fabric for backing

Sign up for one, two or all three days. Each project is designed to be completed during class, so kids go home with something they made themselves.

What to Bring Each Day

  • Sewing machine (If you don’t have access to a sewing machine, please contact the Sewing Studio and talk to Dede Grove)  Students must know how to oil, fill bobbin and run a straight stitch on machine.
    • If not a Bernina, please bring the manual
  • Foot pedal
  • White or gray thread
  • Scissors
  • Pins
  • Seam ripper
  • Fabric marking pen/pencil

Arrival & Parking

When you arrive, pull up parallel to the entry door and an associate will meet you to help with your machine and supplies. After unloading, please park on the east side of the building.

If you have mobility concerns, feel free to park in front of the store at either the east or west end.

Snacks & Drinks

Please bring a snack. A fridge is available for your use, and soda is available for purchase.

Drink Policy: If you bring a drink into the store, it must be in a sealed?lid glass with a slide?closure top. If it doesn’t meet this requirement, you’ll be asked to leave it in the kitchen area.

This is $25.00 per day. If you sign up for all three days, it is $75.00 per child.
