Vest Fest - The Quilted Vest

Join me for a fun and inspiring two-day sewing class as we create the beautiful Farmer’s Daughter Quilted Vest! This class is designed for sewists of all skill levels and is especially welcoming to beginners who are interested in learning garment sewing in a supportive and encouraging environment. I will guide students step-by-step through the construction process while we create a stylish handmade quilted vest that can be worn and enjoyed for years to come.

Throughout this class, students will learn a variety of valuable sewing and garment construction techniques including pattern layout, sizing, pattern markings, cutting, pocket construction, garment assembly, lining techniques, bias binding application, and professional finishing methods. Students will also gain confidence working with quilted materials while learning helpful sewing tips, pressing techniques, and creative ways to personalize their vest through fabric and print selection.

The Farmer’s Daughter Quilted Vest features a quilted exterior, fully lined quilted interior, front tie closure, and functional patch pockets, making it both fashionable and practical for everyday layering. Whether you are new to sewing, returning to the craft, or looking to expand your garment sewing skills, this class offers a wonderful opportunity to learn in a relaxed and creative classroom setting.

Students are encouraged to make their vest uniquely their own through fabric selection and creative combinations. Any fabric choice may be used for this project, allowing students the opportunity to personalize their vest to match their individual style and creativity. You can piece two or three cotton fabrics and quilt them for a fun variety as well. 

Day One will focus on finding your perfect size with preparing and cutting pattern pieces, understanding garment construction, and beginning assembly of the vest. Students will build foundational sewing skills while working through the first stages of the project with guided instruction and support.

Day Two will focus on completing construction, attaching pockets and binding, finishing the lining, and adding the final details that bring the garment together beautifully. By the end of class, students will leave with a completed quilted vest and the confidence to continue exploring quilted garments and wearable sewing projects on their own.

To help maximize sewing time during class, please come with your fabric already pre-quilted and prepared before the first day of class. (In need of help with quilting your fabric. Contact the shop for available options!)

Please bring your own sewing machine, along with its manual, and ensure you are familiar with the machine’s basic operation. Assistance will gladly be provided as needed, but a working knowledge of your sewing machine is important for a successful class experience. You do not need a Bernina sewing machine — all sewing machine brands are welcome.

Who This Class Is For / Skill Level

This class is ideal for beginners, returning sewists, and anyone looking to strengthen their understanding of foundational garment construction. Sewing experience is helpful, but no prior garment sewing experience is required. Just bring your creativity, curiosity, and excitement to learn! The classroom environment is designed to be welcoming, supportive, and encouraging for every student.

Additional Information

• Class will start promptly at 9:30!
• Lunch is not provided; however, the store refrigerator is available for packed meals. A designated lunch break will be provided during class.
• Upon arrival, staff members will gladly assist with bringing in sewing machines and supplies. After unloading, please park on the east side of the building.
• Drinks must be in a sealed container with a sliding closure to help prevent spills in the classroom and shop area.
• If you need to cancel your registration, please contact the store directly. Refunds will be issued as store credit to your Sewing Studio account.
• This class requires a minimum of 3 students to move forward.
