The Art of Cartonnage! Desk Organizer #149 NEW CLASS - NEW PROJECT

Cartonnage is the amazing "art of box making" that is SO fun and relaxing. This is a NO-SEWING required project and you can make amazing fabric boxes, cases and so much more!
If you are not into Quilt making or Embroidery but just love fabric, this is a technique that you must try. With a few supplies and the guidance of Barb, in no time, you will be creating and enjoying a no-sewing way to create unique pieces for your home or gift giving. Drop in to the store today to see a couple of projects to see what Cartonnage is. We are very excited to bring this technique to the store! It is not your normal quilting project!
This class will cover the project - Desk Organizer #149. If you have completed the beginner class or a couple of classes, this is a new class and a great place to join in with a brand new kit! This organizer is perfect size to hold journals, small notebooks, scissors, tape, glasses, small paperback books...really any of your desk supplies. You can use your favorite fabric to make it your own or such a special gift for someone. It would also be a great addition in your child's room as well.
Also think about this option, you have a special someone headed off or back to college, or getting their first place. This is a great gift, done in their favorite colors, and a gift that no one else will be able to create except you!
The kits will be in the store to purchase for the box. The cost of this is not part of the Class Fee. This DIY Cartonnage kit #149 comes with all the cardboard you need to make your fabric Desk Organizer box. The pieces of paper (chipboard and poster board) are precut in the right sizes you need for this project. The finished box will be 10x6.25x7. No worries of cutting paper! The feet are optional for this project and are NOT included in the Kit and currently are NOT in the shop.
Personal instructions are not necessary for class. If you would like your own copy of the instructions during class, please stop by the shop and purchase your kit before class. Follow the instructions inside your kit to access the instructions on the Colorway Arts web site. The instructions can be printed on paper or downloaded to a device. These can then be brought to class if you wish.
If you do not want your own personal instructions during class, we will have this kit waiting for you to be purchased the morning of class. The kit fee is not included in the class fee. All participants must purchase a kit to be used in class.
When you come to your class - bring the following:
- 2 half yards of fabric and more if you want more variety in your project
- snips
- scissors
- 3x12 ruler
- heavy book to weigh down your project
- rotary cutter
- cutting mat - Can be a smaller one - 12x18
- Highly recommended that if you have box corner clips, bring them along. If not, Barb has a few you can borrow. She may not have enough for everyone.
Fabrics that you will want to avoid for this project are directional fabrics and fabrics that could bleed. If you are worried about bleeding, wash and dry your fabric first. Do not use Kona Fabrics either to get a successful outcome. Another fabric to avoid is a light colored = plain fabric. These fabrics tend to allow for a glue spot.
The store is providing your glue kit and table covering. You just need to come and be ready to have some fun!
We like having 4 students enrolled in the class to move forward but do make exceptions depending on the class. But come and join in. This is a great new way to use fabric and you don't need a machine.
When you arrive for your class, please be prepared to park on the east side of the building. If you are impaired, please know you can park on the front of the building towards the east end. If you must cancel your class after signup, please call the store and we will refund your fee in the form of a credit to your account.
If your class is going to go across lunch, no lunch will be provided for this class. We do have a fridge available for your use as well as a microwave for warming items. You also can run to Casey’s to grab something from there. The Casey’s in Hudson is approximately 10 blocks away. If you bring a drink with you, it must be in a sealed, closable slide container. No Casey’s cups or other fast food cups. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
