The Art of Cartonnage! Small Lidded Box Kit - #160a

Cartonnage is the amazing "art of box making" that is SO fun and relaxing. This is a NO-SEWING required project and you can make amazing fabric boxes, cases and so much more!

If you are not into Quilt making or Embroidery but just love fabric, this is a technique that you must try.    With a few supplies and the guidance of Barb, in no time, you will be creating and enjoying a no-sewing way to create unique pieces for your home or gift giving.   Drop in to the store today to see a couple of projects to see what Cartonnage is.    We are very excited to bring this technique to the store!   It is not your normal quilting project!

This class will cover the project – Small lidded box # 160a. This is an intermediate kit that you will want to make for yourself, family and friends.  The lidded box is a finished size of 71/8” x 5 ‘x 3 1/8 in. This box can be used to hold stationary, cotton balls, post it notes, and sewing tools.  You can customize this box by adding batting to the lid.  This will add a depth of dimension to the project. You can also fussy cut pieces for this project.

Personal instructions are not necessary for class.  If you would like your own copy of the instructions during class, please stop by the shop and purchase your  kit before class.  Follow the instructions inside your kit to access the instructions on the Colorway Arts web site. The instructions can be printed on paper or downloaded to a device.  These can then be brought to class if you wish.

If you do not want your own personal instructions during class, we will have this kit waiting for you to be purchased the morning of class.  The kit fee is not included in the class fee.  All participants must purchase a kit to be used in class.

When you come to your class - bring the following:

-  2 fat quarters of fabric,  more fat quarters if you want more variety in your project

-  snips

- Paper awl or something with a sharp point used to pierce.
-  scissors
-  3x12 ruler
-  heavy book to weigh down your project
-  rotary cutter
-  cutting mat - Can be a smaller one - 12x18

Highly recommended that if you have box corner clips, bring them with.   Barb will have a few that can be borrowed, but may not be enough for everyone.

Try to avoid the following fabrics: directional, Kona cotton, light background, black solid or background, and any solid.  If you want to use a solid, try to find a blender such as grunge that will work.

The store is providing your glue kit and table covering. You just need to come and be ready to have some fun!

When you arrive for your class, please be prepared to park on the east side of the building.   If you are impaired, please know you can park on the front of the building towards the east end.   If you must cancel your class after signup, please call the store and we will refund your fee in the form of a credit to your account.   If you are bringing a drink, please have it in a tightly closed container with a sealable drink slide.

We will need a minimum of 4 class participants to move forward with the class.
