HoopSisters - Log Cabin Blocks

HoopSisters are embroidery designers that create versatile quilting patterns that allow you to create quilts, pillows, table runners and just lets your creativity be the boss.    With their one of a kind batting/stabilizer called battilizer, you will be able to create in the hoop projects.    This month we are featuring the Log Cabin Block pattern!   You can take this class whether or not you have taken the Master Class.

The Log Cabin Block is very versatile. In this class, you will be guided through the process on how to stitch this block completely in the hoop.

Christmas is coming - how wonderful this will be done in Christmas fabrics!

For this class, we will be using the Log Cabin design that can be purchased in the store.  The HoopSisters design is intended to be used for a quilt.  The pillow in the shop only requires 4 of the log cabin blocks.  However, you are not limited to making a pillow.  If you want to use the two days to work on blocks for a bigger project - table runner, wallhanging, and/or quilt, you are welcome to do that.  Instructions will be available for making the pillow using either the 5" or 7" blocks.  Join Cheryl as she will guide you through how to master this HoopSister project!

2 samples are now in the store!  There is a Tula Pink fabric pillow and a Christmas fabric pillow.  The Tula pillow was made using 4 of the 8 inch blocks and the Christmas pillow was made using 4 of the 5 inch blocks with added border and corner blocks from the design.  Both are 18 inch pillows.

You will need to bring to class:

Machine
Embroidery Module
Embroidery Needles
Snips
Trimmer by George 3.0 (or 2.0 if you have one) and a 60 mm rotary cutter
Battilizer will be needed as your stabilizer for the in the hoop stitching. The shop has 5 yard and 15 yard packages.

Thread colors  - you will need thread to match the fabric that you pick
Embroidery bobbin thread
Yellow bobbin if your machine uses one
Maxi, Oval  or midi hoop if you have one (depending on size of the block you plan to stitch)
Embroidery Tear Away Tape
A copy of the HoopSisters design.  There are 10 copies of the design behind the register in the class supplies bin.  Please ask at the register to purchase in advance.  The design may also be purchased the day of the class.
You do NOT need to cut fabric prior to class or prewash fabric.

Fabric choices for this project are up to you.

Fabric Requirements:
  • 6 fat quarters for the log cabin blocks
    • You will want to have a progression of three shades of the same color for the two colors in the log cabin.  So, three shades of green and three shades of red, as an example.  The three shades should be a light, medium, and dark for each color.
  • The center of the log cabin can be the same as the fabric that will be the border outside of the log cabin blocks and the back side of the pillow - or it can be different.  A fabric with a white or light background works really well as the center of the log cabin blocks.  If you are going to use a different fabric for the centers of the blocks that is not the border and back of the pillow, you just need some scrap pieces large enough to cut the centers for the 4 blocks.
  • Fabric border and backing pieces of the pillow - 3/4 of a yard
  • If you want to stitch blocks for a bigger project - a wallhanging or quilt - I'm attaching the fabric requirements for the full HoopSisters design.  HoopSisters Log Cabin Block pdf
